MASKS NO LONGER MANDATORY BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The province has backpedaled on the requirement for community masks in public buildings, and so we will follow-suit. They are still highly recommended, although consider a roomier or more breathable model for physical activity during these warmer months.

MASKS MANDATORY

Starting Tuesday, June 9th community masks will be mandatory to enter the facility. This is in response to the new Provincial guidelines announced today. Buffs are not preferred as they are stretchy with a loose weave, but bandanas are fine and if you'd like to turn one into a mask without sewing see the 2nd tutorial on the CDC page here!: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-make-cloth-face-covering.htmlWe hope to have some for sale soon too but know they could be tricky to keep in stock.

Options to 1. do nothing in order to support FBC a little extra during this time; 2. request a credit on your (child's) account to be used toward anything at FBC at a later date (this helps support FBC by reducing the number of refunds during a period without revenue); 3. request a refund (via e-transfer)!*

  • Parties and group bookings: You should have heard from us by now to discuss whether or not to cancel or postpone your event. If you've chosen to postpone until a later date, any previous deposits will be credited toward the new booking date.

  • League Night teams: TBA; any paid-up competitors will have their fees bumped up to when League Night properly commences.

Update - One Month Later

FBC remains closed for now; we acknowledge that recreation and fitness facilities will not be among the first businesses to re-open, but we are being proactive! Our director has joined a national COVID-19 Task Force initiated by the national governing body for climbing in Canada, Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC). Developing careful, cohesive guidelines and recommended procedures during the transition to re-open will be a primary focus for this group, while also maintaining flexibility based on governmental recommendations and requirements. Being prepared will allow for maximum safety of staff and patrons.

We also are very pleased that you'll all come back to fresh mats when we re-open!! 🙌

After School Camp Care SUSPENDED

We now have word that Chief Medical Officer Jennifer Russell recommends closure of all daycares (with the exception of a few specifically identified ones to provide care to critical workers). We will follow-suit and suspend care at our facility. This means that the care schedule laid out for families yesterday afternoon will no longer be available effective Tuesday, March 17.

We hope everyone has success as they make alternative plans for their children, work, and vulnerable loved ones.

Update on COVID-19 Protocols at FBC

FBC IS NOW CLOSED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR TWO WEEKS, in line with the New Brunswick school districts closures announced today.

Please support our health care system at this critical time by maintaining social distance and of course washing your hands. The nature of our sport flies in contrast to these measures and FBC recognizes the responsibility we all have in flattening the curve. Thank you for your understanding.

All monthly and annual passes will be credited two weeks and any bookings during that period will be dealt with fairly an promptly.

Given that daycares have not yet been affected by this closure, we are assessing the feasibility of running ongoing day camp for our existing after school families. Stay tuned for more information.

Public statement from Fredericton Bouldering Co-op regarding COVID-19 outbreak

Fredericton Bouldering Co-op (FBC) would like to acknowledge the urgency of prioritizing the health and safety of all patrons and staff of our facility, as well as the wider community and beyond, during this public health emergency. While the Chief Medical Officer of Health states that the current risk in New Brunswick is low, we recognize the importance of vigilance and extra precaution at this time.

Until further notice, FBC will remain open to the public with the expectation and understanding that all patrons will voluntarily comply with and staff and volunteers enforced to comply with the following action plan:

  • All patrons, staff and volunteers who have traveled by plane within the last 3 weeks must  remain off-site for 14 days after their travel while self-monitoring their condition of health and showing no signs of illness before returning to climb at FBC.

  • All patrons, staff and volunteers exhibiting any signs of illness to remain at home and call 811 for direction.

  • If a parent/guardian of a program participant falls into this category, they can contact FBC to make arrangements for drop-off and pick-up.

  • More frequent and thorough disinfection of surfaces and objects including but not limited to: toys, tables, countertops, door handles, light switches, telephones, computers, POS equipment, sinks, toilets, etc.

  • All patrons and program participants use proper handwashing before and after climbing.

  • As always, climbing shoes are not permitted in the washrooms.

  • All patrons must sneeze or cough into the inside of their elbow.

  • Additional supply of hand sanitizer is being provided in the facility.

  • In advance of the arrival of public sanitizing wipe dispensers, patrons may request staff to disinfect equipment at any time in addition to its routine cleaning.

There will be no penalties for rescheduling your upcoming bookings and events as necessary.

FBC is making preparations to act in the event that further action should be taken, aligning with recommendations by the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Government of New Brunswick. In the event that FBC must temporarily close its doors, rest assured that all monthly and yearly passes will be frozen, and all bookings refunded and/or rescheduled.
